Alvin Tod Jones, fondly known as "Tod," passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, following a brief illness. He was born on Wednesday, December 21, 1966, in Alexander County, where he lived for his entire life, embodying the spirit of the community he so dearly loved.
Tod dedicated his career to public service, beginning with his employment at the Taylorsville Police Department from 1986 to 1988. He then joined the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office in 1988, serving as a deputy before rising to the position of detective and later acquired the position of chief deputy until retirement in 2019. After a month of retirement Tod went to work at the North Carolina Highway Patrol Weigh Station. Throughout his years in law enforcement, Tod was respected by his colleagues and the community alike for his unwavering commitment to justice and service.
Beyond his professional life, Tod cherished his time spent with family, especially his beloved grandchildren, Saige and Stella Schronce. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 26 years, Katrina Jones, an adoring dad to his daughter, Kaitlyn Schronce (Justin). A loving son to his mother, Bernice Palmer Jones. Tod also shared strong bonds with his siblings, Tammy Earp (Bradley) and Amanda Moose (David), and maintained close connections with special friends Chris Bowman and Ray Warren, alongside a number of nieces and nephews who brought joy to his life.
In addition to his family bonds, Tod had a diverse range of interests that enriched his life. He found great joy in listening to southern gospel music and was a devoted fan of NASCAR, often spending time enjoying these pastimes with those he loved.
Tod is preceded in death by his father, Alvin Parker Jones, and an infant son.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. A private service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be with the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to State Employees’ Credit Union to a college fund set up for his grandchildren.
As we remember Tod, we celebrate a life dedicated to family, service, and community—a life that leaves a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know him. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched and the love he shared with his family and friends.
