Alvin William Bowman, age 64 of Taylorsville passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 12, 2013. Born January 18, 1949 in Alexander County to the late Thomas Rome and Dicie Southard Bowman. He was self employed and operated Vinyl Sign & Designs. Alvin was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Vietnam Era. He attended Friendship Lutheran Church and was a member of Riverside Moose Lodge. Alvin loved spending time with his family, especially going to his grandchildren's sporting events. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two half sisters: Inez O'Brient and Merle Hollor and a half brother: Carroll Bowman. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter: Alicia Sigmon and husband Mark of Claremont; son: Michael Bowman and wife Jacqueline of Taylorsville; the mother of his children: Shelby James of Taylorsville; grandchildren: Mason and Alaney Sigmon of Claremont and Ashley and Emily Bowman of Taylorsville; sisters: Jeane Pace and husband Carroll of Tuxedo, NC and Joyce Sigmon and husband Steve of Maiden, NC; brothers: Wayne Bowman and wife Arlene of Palmer, Alaska; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service and Service will begin at 4:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Chris Meade will be officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Lutheran Church Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers and full military rites will be provided by the DAV Chapter 84 of Taylorsville and Chapter 6 of Hudson. Memorials may be sent to the DAV at 582 Carrigan Rd; Taylorsville, NC 28681.
