Barbara Ann Waid Whitley

Barbara Ann Whitley, age 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Claremont, North Carolina. 

Barbara was born on January 3, 1930 and was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis Clinton Waid and Katie Elizabeth Stough of Parrish, Alabama. 

She was the oldest of six children and is survived by her five siblings: Eunice Allen of Bakersfield CA, John Waid of Huntsville AL, Juanita Alread of Jasper, AL, Lujene Painter of Lincolnton, NC, and Berta Robertson of Jasper, AL.

Barbara had two amazing daughters: Rita (Son in Law, Robert) Heath Fowler of Catawba, NC, (deceased), and Ann (widow of Donald) Heath Carpenter of Claremont, NC. 

Barbara was married to the Late Paul Whitley of Wilkesboro, NC.

At the age of 95, Barbara had six grandchildren: John (Linda) Fowler of Kissimmee, FL, Ann “Gidget” (Kenny) Wray of Claremont, NC, Leslie (Bobby) Benson of Newton, NC, Roderick Scott Yow (deceased), Tiffany Carpenter of Claremont, NC and Jason Carpenter (Rhonda) of Claremont, NC, fifteen great grandchildren: Luke Ervin (deceased), James (Alexandra) Fowler, Rolen (Brookelynn) Benson, Benjamin (Makayla) Benson, Ashley Benson, Joshua (Sarah) Martin, Hailey (Spencer) Cloud, Addison Wray, Chloe (Codie) Ervin, and Cooper (Morgan) Wray, Dillon Yow, Gavin Carpenter, Paisley Carpenter, Ivan Huffman, and Ivey Huffman, eight great-great-grandchildren: Eden Fowler, Nicholas Fowler, Asa Benson, Easton Martin, Evelyn Martin, Archie Cloud, Crosby Ervin, Ozzy Wray, and two more on the way. 

She was a factory worker during her years of employment. She maintained a superior work ethic in every job she held.

Family was the most important aspect of Barbara's life. 

Visitation will be held Thursday January 23, 2025, at Alexander Funeral Service from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm. The funeral service will follow in the Alexander Funeral Service Chapel at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Mount Lawn Memorial Park in North Wilkesboro. Pallbearers will be John Fowler, Joshua Martin, Cooper Wray, Ivan Huffman, Rolen Benson, Benjamin Benson, Jason Carpenter. Honorary Pallbearers will be Codie Ervin, Spencer Cloud, Dillow Yow, James Fowler. 

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Carolina Caring at 3975 Robinson Rd Building 3, Suite A, Newton, NC 28658 

She will be remembered for her tenacity, perseverance, and wonderful sense of humor, but most importantly, her beautiful Faith that she shared joyfully with everyone. She attended Oxford Baptist Church in Conover, NC.
