Betty Gray Shepherd Combs

March 14, 1935 — July 16, 2024

Betty Combs, 89, of Old Mountain Road in Stony Point went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, following a sudden illness. She was born on Thursday, March 14, 1935, in Wilkes County and was the daughter of Fred and Dessie Mae Shepherd. Betty was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for 71 years. She married the love of her life, Bobby, in July 1953 and was married for 67 years. She was a homemaker and mother who loved her family and her church dearly. She loved decorating, enjoyed working in her flowerbed, and singing gospel music was her passion. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and loved teaching God's Word. 

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Combs “Bobby”, a daughter, Robbin Dennice Combs; two grandsons, James Christopher Sims and Shawn Patrick Reese; sister Jean Shepherd Sheets and two brothers; Jim and Bob Shepherd. 

Betty leaves to cherish her memory, a sister, Brenda Shepard Woods; a sister-in-law, Marie Combs; three sons, Keith Combs, Paul Combs, and Shannon Combs, daughter-in-law, Rhonda; two daughters, Kathey Roosevelt, son-in-law, Gary, and Penny Stevenson, son-in-law, Eric; three grandsons, Matthew Combs and wife Meredith, Joshua Combs and wife Emily, and Austin Combs; a granddaughter, Maranda Nelson and husband Micah; and three great-grandchildren, Maverick and Marleigh Nelson and Mila Combs; and numerous nieces & nephews, and was loved by many friends. 

The family will receive friends at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 40 Tomahawk Lane, Stony Point on Sunday, July 21, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The service will be held 3:00 pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Reverend Wesley Hammer and Reverend Bradley Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Stony Point Tabernacle Cemetery, 190 Mill Hill Ct., Stony Point. Paul Combs, Keith Combs, Shannon Combs, Joshua Combs, Austin Combs, and Matthew Combs will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank mama's very special caregiver and friend, Hazel Smith. She has been a God send and is truly appreciated and loved very much. A special thank you to mama's niece, Judy Bowers, for all the love shown to our mama. The family also extends our deepest gratitude to Gordon's Hospice House for the level of compassion and care they bestowed upon our family and to our mama. 

Betty will be deeply missed, and her absence will be profoundly felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her loving nature and generous heart will forever be cherished and will remain in our hearts and memories forever. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Betty Combs' honor to Gordon's Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Rd, Statesville, NC 28625.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Alexander Funeral and Cremation Service.
