Betty Sue Wike,

Betty Sue Russell Wike, age 84, of Alexander County, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2014 at her residence. She was born to the late Parks Russell and Della Mae Davis Russell. Betty was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she was very active in WMU, choir, Sunday School, and as a VBS teacher. Her last employer was Southern Devices where she worked on the assembly line in manufacturing. Betty also enjoyed cooking, flowers, and her grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Don Russell and Wayne Russell; and sisters: Gladys Brown, Mildred Dagenhart, and Pauline St. Clair. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Sam Wike, of Taylorsville; daughter: Donna Wike Elder and husband Randy of Taylorsville; grandchildren: Cory Elder and Brianna Elder of Taylorsville; brother: Keith Russell and wife Doris of Statesville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Monty Mathis and Rev. Doug Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
