Billie Matlock, age 106 of Hiddenite passed away at her residence on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. Born in Rowan County to the late William Martin and Josephine Elam Lefler, Billie was a resident of Alexander County from 1927 until her death. She was a homemaker, a member at Hiddenite United Methodist Church where she served as the treasurer for approximately forty years for the United Methodist Women, she enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens and was considered an accomplished seamstress.
Ms. Matlock also served as a guide at the Lucas Mansion. Billie had a loving heart to all, including her pets; especially her cat, Susie.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Robert “Bob” Matlock, a sister, Evelyn L. Morrison, two brothers, Charles and Fletcher Lefler.
Those left to cherish the memories of Billie include a niece, Patricia “Patty” Thomas of Mechanicsville, VA, a great-nephew, Chris Dunnavant and wife Diana, great-grand-niece, Clara Ruth all of Williamsburg, Va.
Visitation for Billie will be Friday, November 22, 2019 at Hiddenite United Methodist Church, from 2:00 pm until 2:45 pm with the funeral service at 3:00 pm. The Rev. Jackie Taylor, Rev. Doug Hochmuth and Rev. Chris Dunnavant will be officiating. Burial will be in the Hiddenite Cemetery.
