Billy “Bill” Edward Hefner Sr. age 90, passed away after a short illness Friday April 7, 2023. He was born to the late Sam E. and Ina Bowman Hefner in Alexander County on April 1, 1933. Bill served in the Air Force and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. During his working career he worked for 40 years at Century Furniture and retired as a purchasing agent for Century. Mr. Hefner enjoyed flying airplanes in his younger years, and always grew tomatoes and spring onions.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by the love of his life Hallie Kirby Hefner of 69 years, a son Stanley Erwin Hefner, two sisters: Helen Hefner Miller and Shirley Hefner Lail, three brothers: Maynard Hefner, S.E. Hefner, Allen Hefner.
Those left to cherish the memories of Mr. Hefner includes, son Billy E. Hefner Jr. (Linda), daughter Beverly Hefner Kerley (Danny), three grandchildren: Billy “Trey” E Hefner III (Kelly), Tracy Kerley Brown (Chris), Michael Kerley (Ellie), nine great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, brother Jerry Hefner (Barbara), two sisters: Brenda Bowman and Jane Bowman, sister-in-laws: Catherine and Judy Hefner, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Bill will be held Monday April 10, 2023, at Bethlehem Baptist Church from 1:30 to 2:45 pm. The funeral service will be held Monday April 10, 2023, at Bethlehem Baptist Church at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Dean Chambers will be officiating. Terry Miller, Scott Bowman, Mark Hefner, Todd Hefner, Jeff Hefner, Kyle Hefner, and Jeff Kirby will be pallbearers. Military honors will be provided by DAV Ch. 84 and Ch. 6.
