Bobby Edward Carpenter, age 73, of Stony Point, passed away at Gordon Hospice House on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. He was the son of the late Staples and Bertie Lee Benfield Carpenter Sr. Mr. Carpenter was born on March 28, 1942 in Avery County. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Mr. Carpenter loved to fish, listen to gospel music, and do wood working. Before his retirement in 2002 he was employed by Catawba Valley Community College as an instructor in Emergency Medical Services for over 20 years and was a State Evasive Driving Instructor.
In addition to his parents Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by two brothers: Staples Carpenter Jr., Glen Wesley Carpenter, and sister Anna Jean Carpenter Woody.
He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Minerva Jean Ingram Carpenter of Stony Point, two sons: Allen Carpenter of Stony Point, Mark Carpenter of Bethlehem; one daughter Cindy Bivens & husband Roy of Lincolnton; two sisters: Dora Day and Betty Mills both of Newland, NC; and a number of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Alexander Funeral Service from 4:00-6:00 pm. The memorial service will follow at Temple Baptist Church in Stony Point at 7:00 pm. The Rev. Tom Lamplet and Rev. Jason Payne will be officiating. Interment and visitation will be held Friday, February 5, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Big Meadows Baptist Church in Pyatte Community.
