Bobby Gene Martin

Bobby Gene Martin, age 84, a dedicated family man, was born on Sunday, April 7, 1940, in Catawba County. After a life marked by hard work and compassion, he passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Catawba Valley Medical Center in Catawba County.

Throughout his career, Gene distinguished himself as a skilled farrier, a profession that not only highlighted his expertise but also reflected his lifelong passion for horses. Gene enjoyed being around these majestic animals and had a deep appreciation for horseback riding. Farming was another pursuit he cherished; he took great joy in raising cattle and Bantam chickens, as well as imparting his knowledge about horses to those eager to learn.

Gene’s true love, however, was his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and was committed to creating lasting memories. He is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Dawn Martin, along with his children: Cindy Martin Pipes (Jerry), Robert Martin (Lynne), and Joseph Cornwell (Brandy). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Meagan Pipes, Travis Pipes (Grace Krell), Samuel Martin (Ciera McCrary), Mitchell Martin, Lucas Cornwell, and Liam Cornwell, all of whom were particularly dear to him. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pink Moses Martin and Maude Sain Martin, as well as his infant daughter, Janelda Martin, siblings: Frank Martin, Ralph Martin, Carl Martin, Coy Martin, Ray Martin, Pauline Leonhardt, Shirley Wallace, and Geneva Mull.

Gene was a member of the Three Forks Baptist Church, where he contributed his spirit and service to the community.

His life will be celebrated during visitation and memorial service to be held at Three Forks Baptist Church in Taylorsville, NC. The visitation will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by the memorial service at 3:00 pm. Dr. Carson Moseley will officiate. Inurnment will be with the family.

Gene’s dedication to both his family and his passions left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family, friends, and the community he served throughout his life.
