Bruce Richard Starnes,

Bruce Richard Starnes 84, of the Bethlehem Community, Taylorsville, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Frye Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late James P. Starnes and Dorthy Anne Duncan Starnes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Mae Baker Starnes of 63 years and daughter Brenda Smith.

Born February 23, 1932. He was a hosiery mill fixer most of his life and retired from Clayton Marcus Furniture. He was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing, cars and motorcycles. He is survived by three daughters Betty Dyson- late husband Mickey Dyson. Kathy Drum- late husband Rodney Drum and Sheila Brown and husband Daniel (Danny) Brown all of Bethlehem. one son- James (Sonny) and wife Lecticia Starnes, and son in law Jimmy Smith of Newton. Grandchildren Melinda Freddie and Robert Smith of Newton. Michael Dyson and Kristy Matthews of Granite Falls. Daniel and Kayla Brown and Trae Starnes all of Bethlehem. Great grandchildren- Ryan, Dylan, Cameron, Anna, Brad and Allen of Newton. Josh and Jake of Roanoke Rapids. Dalton, Jeremiah and Jayden of Bethlehem. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 am at Shiloh Lutheran Church. The funeral will follow at 11:00 am. Pastor David L. Hefner will be officiating the service. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. The family requests that in addition to flowers that memorials be made  to the Shiloh Lutheran Church Roof fund, 1011 Shiloh Church Rd, Hickory, NC 28601.
