Cavle Lillian Watkins, "Kay", age 74 of Liledoun Rd, Taylorsville, died peacefully at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson, NC, on Thursday, June 4, 2015, following a brief struggle with cancer. Kay was born in Wilbar, NC on Saturday, July 13, 1940, to the late Robert Glenn and Faye Wyatt Griffin in Wilkes County. Kay captured the heart of her husband, William "Fred" Watkins, while attending Millers Creek High School, and were married on Thursday, July 19, 1956. During their 58 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling to all of the 48 contiguous states, camping, and looking for treasures at yard sales and flea markets to share with friends and family. Kay loved to cook. Those blessed to know her were likely the recipients of a variety of chocolates she made each Christmas. She prepared weekly communion bread for worship at Liledoun Road Church of Christ, where she was a faithful member and taught others to carry on this service. She loved sharing her culinary skills with anyone who was interested, especially her granddaughters.
Kay is survived by her loving husband Fred; four sons, William Watkins and wife Bonnie, of Boomer, Stephen Watkins, of Taylorsville, Douglas Watkins and wife Joy, of Taylorsville, Ronald Watkins, of Statesville; four granddaughers, Charity, Lee, Katherine, Katelyn: one brother, James "Jim" Griffin, of North Wilkesboro; two sisters, Brona "Bon" Church, Bobby Miller, both of Wilbar; several nieces and nephews; and her canine companion, Patty.
