Charles Lee Barnes, age 74 passed away at Catawba Regional Hospice on Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Charlie was born on Thursday, May 29, 1941 to the late John June and Hessie Millie Howell Barnes in Alexander County. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church where he served in the all male choir, senior choir, treasurer of the senior choir, member of the adult Sunday school class, attended vacation bible school faithfully every year, and was in the usher ministry. He loved sports, his favorite teams included: Carolina Tarheel Basketball, Atlanta Braves Baseball, and Panthers Football. Charlie was never too busy to lend a helping hand to those in need. He will be remembered for his kind, caring heart.
In addition to his parents Charlie was preceded in death by his father & mother in-law Ross and Evelyn Parsons,
a sister Joyce Ann Barnes, niece Andrea Parsons, and nephew Carlos Parsons.
Charlie leaves to carry on his legacy his loving wife of 47 years Lena Bell Parsons Barnes, of the home, son Charles Eric Barnes and wife Tina, of Hickory, daughter Tameka Lynn Barnes, of Taylorsville, two brothers Lindsey Edward, Chastie William Barnes, both of Taylorsville, one nephew Everett Tyrone Barnes, of Taylorsville, seven grandchildren; Megan Lynn Barnes, Brennan Ross Sparks, Tallon Lee Barnes, Charles Damien Barnes, Tierrey, Kirstin, Veronica Abernathy, two great grandchildren Nena and Neuriah Abernathy, one Godson Terry McFarland and wife Loretta, their two children Layla and Lilly, three Goddaughters Cierra McWhorter, Narissa Rowe, Karoline Mayes, and two adopted grandchildren James & John Muzello.
Visitation will be Friday, July 10, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Service from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. John Baptist Church on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 3:00 pm. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. The Rev. T.E. Martin, Rev. John Rowe, and Rev. James Millsaps will be officiating.
