Chestean Manervia Cline Killian, age 83 of Taylorsville, passed away on Sunday evening, Dec.21, 2014 in Gordon Hospice House. Chestean was born on Apr. 30, 1931, to the late Charlie and Hessie Magdeline Cline in Alexander County, she was a homemaker and a life-long member of Smyrna Baptist Church. Chestean had served as a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, was a member of WMU and served as Baptist Association Messenger for numerous years. She was a member of the DAV Ladies Auxiliary, and member of Alexander County AARP and the Senior Center. She served as a chief judge for elections in Wittenburg Township. Mrs. Killian was an avid gardner and loved to crochet. She was well known for the best fried sweet potatoes. She always attempted to support her grandchildren in all their sports activities, no matter what the circumstances.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Billy N. Killian, as well as her three brothers, Nesbie, Kelsie, and Waitsel Cline, one sister, Berlean Lail and one step-grandson, Richard Sumpter.
She is survived by her four children, Patsy Robinson and husband Marty, Levaughn Elder and husband Michael, Billy L. Killian and wife Brenda, and Charlie Dale Killian and wife Cassie. Five grandsons, Dallas, Quincy and wife Amanda, Justin Killian, Patrick Elder and wife Markeisha, and Jacob Elder and wife Emily. She has four granddaughters, Amanda R. Templeton and husband Eric, Tiffany Robinson, Dara Elder, and Candice Killian. Seven great-grandchildren survive, Benjamin Killian, Gracie, Grayson, and Lawson Templeton, Masyn Elder, Malachi and Makenzie Haas. She has three step grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren and two step great-great-granddaughters. There are several special nieces and nephews. She also had a very special friend her dog Penny.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, evening, Dec. 23, 2014, at Smyrna Baptist Church, 6-8:00 p.m. with funeral services on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the church. The body will lie in state at the church prior to the funeral hour. Rev. Dan Spears, Rev. Gary Jennings, Bobby Tannehill, and Jimmy Crouch will officiate. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Granddaughters will serve as flower girls. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
