Clara Bumgarner Wike, 82, of Taylorsville went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Valley Nursing Center. She was born in Alexander County on December 27, 1930 to the late Chaunce C. and Sadie Deal Bumgarner. She was employed by Peoples Drug for 35 years. Because of her outgoing personality and friendly smile, she affectionately became known to many as "Granny." She loved Mt. Hebron Baptist Church where she was a member and served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and as the Treasurer for 40 years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three sisters - Mae Owensby, Mary Lee Bentley and Catherine "Pernie" Robinette; and three brothers - Jack, Wayne and Tom Bumgarner. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Jonie Parks Wike, of Taylorsville; two sons - Dennis E. Wike and wife Pat, of Taylorsville and Ronnie A. Wike and wife Barbara, of Taylorsville; two daughters - Vikki A. Motley and husband Ernie, of Wilmington, Delaware and Sandi D. Wike, of Hickory; grandchildren - Traci Wike, Ryan Wike and wife Emily, Casey Wike and wife Jennifer; Christie Wike, Cole Motley and Steven Motley; three great grandchildren - Benjamin Wike, John and Jacob Moore; one brother - Glenn Bumgarner, of Charlotte; and two sisters - Betty Jolly, of Lexington and Suma Hicks, of Newton.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. Service will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Orren, Rev. Eddie Yount and Rev. Stuart White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Gary Childers, Phil Icard, Wayne Kerley, Vaughn Russell, Keith Kerley and Archie Childers with Honorary Pallbearers Larry Nichols and Royde Kerley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mt. Hebron Baptist Church Building Fund at 17 Mt. Hebron Church Ct; Taylorsville, NC 28681 or to Hospice of Alexander County at 50 Lucy Echerd Lane; Taylorsville, NC 28681.
