Clara Jean Deal Austin, age 77 of Taylorsville passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice. She was born in Cabarrus County on April 18, 1937 to the late Robert Partee and Ona Estelle Kerley Deal, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she always looked forward to attending Taylorsville Camp Meeting. She attended Wilkes Community College where she studied Business Administration. During her life, she was employed as an administrative assistant and a textile inspector. In her spare time, she also enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and she had a special practice of sending handwritten greeting cards to family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother Keith Deal.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband J.P. Austin, Jr. of the home. Four daughters: Victoria Lynne Austin Martin, and spouse Russell Dale Martin; Kathy Roxanne Austin Mitchell, and spouse Dwight Gilbert Mitchell; Crystal Faith Austin Price, and spouse Richard Wayne Price; and Mitzi Jean Austin Watts, and spouse Jeffrey Quince Watts. Nine grandchildren include Jessica Fox Moretz, Dustin Ray Galloway, Jonathan William Mitchell, Megan Elizabeth Mitchell, Christopher Lynn Watts, Heidi Marie Fox, Catherine Grace Watts, Jonas Dakota Watts, and Matthew Dillon Campbell. Five great-grandchildren include Madison Victoria Moretz, Daniel Clay Moretz, Sarah Grace Moretz, Ashlyn Kate Moretz, and Lucius Gabriel Dean Brown. She also leaves behind six step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren, two sisters: Colene Deal Mullis and spouse, Connie; and Brenda Deal Lowe and friend James Earp, three brothers: Joe Deal and spouse Phyllis; Roger Allen Deal and spouse Linda; and Robert P. Deal and spouse Thea.
The family of Mrs. Austin will receive friends on Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm at Calvary Baptist Church. The Funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Steve Dagenhart officiating. Burial will follow in Jolly Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dustin Galloway, Jonathan Mitchell, Christopher Watts, Jonas Watts, Matthew Campbell, and Daniel Moretz.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Catawba Regional Hospice @ 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
