Clarence Ray Sloop

Clarence “Ray” Sloop, age 93, passed away Friday, September 9, 2022, in Wilkes County. Mr. Sloop was born to the late C.P. Sloop and Stella Elliott Sloop in Alexander County on February 1, 1929. Ray proudly served his country in the US Army. Before retiring, Ray worked as a dispatcher for Holly Farms and Tyson. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Sloop enjoyed camping and NASCAR.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, JD Sloop, Harold Sloop, and Ned Sloop, sister, Peggy London.

Those left to cherish the memories of Ray include his wife of 75 years, Cleeda Fern Sloop, sons, Brent Sloop (Lori), Ricky Sloop (Karen), grandchildren, Dustin Sloop (Katie), and Cassie Lynn Sloop, three great-grandchildren, Reese Sloop, Elijah Sloop, and Ian Sloop, and nephew that was like a son, Lanny Keever (Doris).

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022, in the Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery at 1:00 pm. The address for the church is 1300 Liberty Church Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636. Pastor Jason Penley will officiate.
