Clyde Eugene Higgins, age 53, of Hiddenite, started shouting on the streets of glory with his Heavenly father on Friday, May 20, 2016. He had fought a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his battle with cancer he would always say, "I will be a winner either way. Whether I win this fight or leave here, I will be a winner!!!"
Clyde was born on July 10, 1962, in Lexington, Virginia. He was the son of the late Charles Marshall and Clara Hall Higgins who survives. In addition to his parents Clyde was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Lee Higgins.
Clyde had been self-employed for 25 years as a mobile home repairman. He had also driven a truck for Carolina Cargo and CommScope. On October 18, 1986 he married Brenda Millsaps Higgins, the love of his life.
Clyde was a member of the Taylorsville Lions Club serving as the club's president for the last 3 years. He has been called the most award winning president because of the awards the club has received during his tenure. Clyde was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow award for dedicated humanitarian services by the Lions Club International in 2014-2015. He had such a passion for helping others.
Survivors including his wife Brenda and mother Clara are, a daughter, Brianna Higgins of the home, a son Timmy Pennell & wife Ashley of Union Grove, two brothers: William Higgins & wife Connie of Buenva Vista, VA, and John Higgins & wife Darlene of Lexington, VA; nephews: Eric, Brian, & Will Higgins; nieces: Brooklyn Gardner & Sherry Higgins Winslow; mother-in-law, Roena Millsaps, and special friends: DJ Curry, Brian & Sherry Simpkins, and Thurman & Jane Farrow.
Clyde had been attending White Plains Baptist Church until his health became an issue. Clyde had gotten saved on September 8, 2002 and he loved going around and spreading his testimony. He had such an outgoing personality and leadership qualities that everyone loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 5:00 pm at White Plains Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tony Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Hiddenite. Visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Service on Saturday, May 21, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 pm.
Pallbearers will include: Eric Higgins, Brian Higgins, Will Higgins, Marc Gilbert, Cody Gilbert, & Charlie Carlson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Taylorsville Lions Club and surrounding clubs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Shady Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o Timmy Pennell, 336 Campbell Mtn. Dr., Union Grove, NC 28689.
