Clyde Milton Chapman, age 82, of the Little River Community, Taylorsville, passed away at his residence on Tuesday morning May 19, 2015, following a lingering illness. Born on June 14, 1932, in Alexander county, to the late William Butler "Sam" and Ora Chapman Chapman, he was retired from the NC Department of Transportation as an equipment operator, after 30 years and 9 months. He was a life- long farmer and loved his grandbabies. He enjoyed all the time spent with his friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Shook Chapman, three sisters, Wilma Brown, Stella Chapman and Hazel Harrington, along with four brothers Atwell, Fred, Hall, and David Chapman.
He is survived by two sons, William Chapman and wife Candy, as well as Robert Chapman and wife, Valorie, all of Taylorsville. Clyde has one remaining brother, Jimmy Chapman and wife Marie, of Taylorsville. His grandchildren include Candra, Brett, Gracie, and Steven Chapman, all of Taylorsville. He has a number of nieces and nephews. He has a special friend, Rita Barr.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening May 21, 2015, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service with funeral services on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Little River Baptist Church. The body will lie in state thirty minutes before the funeral hour. Rev. Jeff Chapman, Rev. Taylor Miller, Rev. Steve Dagenhart and Rev. Neil Walker will officiate. Pallbearers will be, Stevie Jolly, Benny Mitchell, Eric Ferguson, Jason Gwaltney, Dennis James, and Thomas Gross. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Jolly, Michael Ferguson, Pee Wee Bumgarner, and Daniel Bumgarner. Burial will follow in the Little River Baptist Church Cemetery.
