Cyrus Long Purser, age 81 of Taylorsville passed away on Friday, September 9 2011 at his home.  He was born in Union County on June 14, 1929 to the late Silas Lester and Luda Vidalia Long Purser.  Cy served in the US Army in the 53rd Division Infantry, was a member of the local Ruritan Club and also a member of First Baptist Church - Taylorsville.  Mr Purser had worked as a Hotpoint/GE Appliance Salesman for 13 years, a Plant Superintendent at Holly Farms/Tyson Chicken for 18 years and also an Apple farmer for 6 years.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Gladys McKillop Purser; four brothers:  Haron, Flyn, Hoyt, and Lee Purser; and four sisters:  Anna Mae Thomas, Fleo McManus, Ruth Cooper, and Margie Helms.  Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters:  Dinah Purser of Taylorsville, Suzanne Purser Wilson of Charlotte; one son Mack Purser and wife Miriam of Taylorsville.  Grandchildren include Josh Purser and wife Amy of Taylorsville; Emily P. Brock and husband Justin of Landrum, SC, and Dinah E. Wilson of Charlotte.  He also leaves behind two sisters Christine Almond of Kannapolis; and Cleo McManus of Pensaola, FL; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.  Visitation for Mr. Purser will be held at First Baptist Church-Taylorsville on Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 2:30 -4:00 pm with the funeral service to begin at 4:00 pm.  Rev. Tim Marsh, Rev. Marion Powell, and Rev. Gary Jennings will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Taylorsville City Cemetery.  DAV Post 84 will afford Military Rights at the grave.  Pallbearers will be Josh Purser, Norman Poole, Ronnie Almond, Richard Simpson, Norris  Purser, and Dale Caldwell.  Honorary Pallbearers include Ray Lovette, JD Bowman, Ralph Fox, and Charlie Little.  The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those special caregivers who took care of daddy:  Effie White, Teresa Whitesides, Debbie Teague, Sharon Pennell, Candace Woodward, and Dana Starnes.  Also a special thank you to Hospice and HomeCare of Alexander County.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Alexander County at 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, 28681
