Daniel Lawrence Leonard Jr. age 81, of Hiddenite, passed away at Gordon Hospice House on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. He was born in Catawba county to the late Daniel Lawrence Sr. and Lesta Mae Robinson Leonard on Tuesday, October 24, 1933. He served in the Navy and was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church. Daniel enjoyed mowing and gardening and will be remembered for his love of reading the bible and his warm loving smile.
In addition to his parents Daniel was also preceded in death by seven half brothers, Vernon, Clyde, Ernest, Hyrle, George, Homer, and Russell Leonard, three half sisters, Ninna and Winnie Leonard, Katie Barger, and one step son Robert Lee Matheson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Ruby Ham Leonard, two sons Michael Leonard and wife Donna of Senoia, GA, Terry Leonard of Marion, NC, two step children, Junior Matheson and wife Debbie of Bethlehem, Lori Matheson George and husband Rickey of Taylorsville, 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, a special niece Ailene Leonard of Denver, NC and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Service from 6:30-8:30 pm. Funeral services will be Friday, May 15, 2015 at Christian Fellowship Church at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Scott Greene officiating. The body will lie in state 3o minutes prior to the funeral service. Burial will take place in the Hiddenite cemetery.
