David Chapman, Jr., age 96 of Taylorsville, entered his heavenly home on Monday, August 26, 2013. He was born in Iredell County, NC on April 24, 1917 and was the adopted son of the late David Burton Chapman and Estella Johnson Chapman. After being adopted, David spent his infant, childhood, and early adult years living in Iowa on his family’s farm. He married Wilma Ruby Jones and they began their family together. In 1953, David and Wilma returned to North Carolina with their children and continued their family. David was a member of Three Forks Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. He was also a faithful member of the church choir. In addition to working on the family farm, David worked in several local furniture industries. He was known for his hard work ethic, devotion to his family, and his strong spiritual faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He impacted many lives with his words of wisdom and spiritual advice. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by eleven siblings, an infant set of twin great grandchildren, and a son-in-law. Survivors include his six daughters, Patricia Jordan and husband, Bill of Taylorsville, Sina Brown of Wilkes County, Betty Petree and husband Gray of Winston-Salem, Sue Mays and husband Redge of Taylorsville, Cindy Eurey and husband Tommy of Newton, and JoEtta Galliher and husband Danny of Statesville; and a son, Bill Chapman and wife Glenda of Taylorsville. Survivors also include sixteen grandchildren, Matthew Jordan and wife Gina, Carrie Head and husband Jason, Rebekah McCarthy and husband Ian, William Jordan and wife Amanda, Gary Chapman and wife Sonya, Laura Sprinkle and husband Scott, Daniel Chapman and wife Amy, Diane Johnston, Sarah Perdue and husband Robert, Zachary Petree and wife Taylor, Lynsey Moore and husband Brian, Tia Barnes and husband Kevin, Kelli Glisan and husband Tim, Israel Fox, Shane Galliher and wife Jenna, and Luke Galliher, 29 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 29, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Three Forks Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 30 at 3:00 pm at Three Forks Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Runion and Rev. Carson Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will include Mr. Chapman’s grandsons. Honorary attendants include members of his Sunday school class and the wonderful caregivers who faithfully looked after him. Mr. Chapman’s granddaughters will serve as flower bearers.
