David "Lee" Pardue, age 96, known as "the shoe man" of Taylorsville, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 17 surrounded by his family. Born in Wilkes County on July 27, 1917 to the late Columbus Badger and Emily Adams Pardue. Lee ran the Down Town Shoe Shop in Taylorsville for 64 years before retiring three years ago. He was a veteran in the US Army where he served during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Lee attended Taylorsville Church of God and enjoyed camping and interacting with people. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Ray Pardue and Paul Pardue, Sr.; sisters: Vertie Pardue Gentle, Ruth Pardue Booe and Irene Pardue Shaffner and 6 infant siblings. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years, Ethel Mildred Davidson Pardue of the home; sons: Danny and wife Bertie Pardue of Wilkesboro and Steve and wife Melody Pardue of Taylorsville; daughters: Laura Pardue Baker and friend, Glenna Chronister of Clyde, Doris Pardue and fiance Tommy Watts of Charlotte, and Sharon Pardue DeLemos of Taylorsville; sisters: Esther Pardue Hilton of Archdale, Wanda Pardue Riggins of High Point, Ruby Pardue Proctor of Trinity and Mary Pardue Highfill of Thomasville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm at Alexander Funeral Service and a Celebration of Life Service will begin at 3:00 pm at Taylorsville Church of God with the Rev. Perry Link and Rev. Mark Albertino officiating. Burial will follow at the Taylorsville City Cemetery. Military Rites provided by the DAV Chapter 84, of Taylorsville and Chapter 6, of Hudson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Taylorsville Church of God - Building Fund at 486 East Main Avenue; Taylorsville, NC 28681.
