David Leonard Norris, Sr. born on May 28, 1938, in Tupelo Mississippi passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on February 28, 2025, in Catawba County. A dedicated family man, beloved community member and proud Marine, David, better known as Pop or Sarge, enjoyed a lifetime of personal and professional accomplishments. He was a faithful member of Community Christian Fellowship.

Pop was well respected, both in the furniture industry, working for Wittenburg Furniture and Clayton Marcus, as well as 30 plus years as a team driver with his late wife, lovingly known as Granny throughout the community. They loved to recant stories from their more than 3 million miles of driving across the country for Christy Trucking, Thomas Produce and GE.

Pop was known for his friendly nature, outgoing personality, quick wit and his love for conversation, making friends wherever he went.

An enthusiastic participant in community initiatives, Pop felt blessed to fulfill duties in the Marine Corps League from committees including the Honor Guard, Toys for Tots, Marine Corps Ball, and the annual Parades. He also very much enjoyed participating in the Rifle Squad. Pop was always willing to serve and help anyone- and was considered the heart and soul of his detachment.

He is survived by his daughter, Jaymie Bodenheimer (Phillip); son, Matthew Norris (Jacqueline); brothers, Robert W. Norris, John Alan Norris; sisters, Ruth McDonald and Dorothy Virginia Donald; grandchildren, Nicole Resendiz, Jeremiah Norris, Nicholas Crossno, Sarah Bodenheimer, Charlie Bodenheimer, Dustin Fincannon, Zachary Fincannon, Terri Testerman, Zoë Norris and Kydd Norris; along with 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.

Pop was preceded in death by his parents, Moses Norris and Annie Pauline Ledbetter Norris; his wife of 64 years, Linda Moretz Norris; his son, David Leonard Norris, Jr.; his daughter, Linda Diana Fincannon; and brothers, James Gilbert Norris and Thomas Wayne Norris.

A memorial service honoring Pop’s life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Bethlehem Church of God, beginning at 10 am. Pastor Neil Bowman and Pastor Bill Honeycutt will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the Bethlehem Church of God cemetery with military rites provided.
