David Thomas Mazeau, 86, of Taylorsville, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at home after a brief illness. Born February 17, 1926 to the late Julian and Mary Inez (Archibald) Mazeau in Long Island City, New York. He was a stationary engineer for the Long Island University CW Post Campus for 20 years. David was a veteran who served in the US Navy as Chief Machinist's Mate and was honorably discharged having received a commendation for overall exemplary performance. He was retired from the US Naval Reserve, for a total of 27 years of service. David was a long time member of the DAV Post 84 of Taylorsville and was a member of Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife and mother to his children, Eleanor Moir Mazeau; his second wife, Rebecca R. Mazeau; one daughter, Denise Grunseich; one stepson Brian Godowitz; his brother, Julian "Archie" A. Mazeau and his sister, Barbara J. McCoy. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Brenda Spears, of the home; two sons - David T. Mazeau and wife Cindi Mazeau of Texas; and Vincent J. Mazeau, of New York; four step-daughters, Wendy Godowitz, Ellen Ross and husband David Ross; Bella Godowitz, and Jennifer Johnson and husband Kevin Johnson, of Wilkesboro; one brother, Jeremiah Mazeau, of Colorado; two sisters - Mary Inez Mazeau, of New York and Marjorie Ushold, of Florida; three grandsons - Jared Mazeau, of Texas (US Air Force) and Beckett Mazeau, of New York, and Paul Zydor of New Hampshire; one granddaughter, Kimberly Mazeau of Texas and two step-granddaughters, Celina and Alex Johnson; a great grandson, Antonio Mazeau and step grandson, Alex Moose; and a number of nieces and nephews.



A graveside service will be held at the Salisbury National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow with military rites provided by DAV Chapter 84, of Taylorsville and Chapter 6, of Hudson. Flowers are not being accepted but donations may be made to DAV Chapter 84 of Taylorsville; 582 Carrigan Rd, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
