Denver Barr, 76 of Hiddenite, NC passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Palliative Care and Hospice Center of Catawba County. Born August 11, 1934 to the late Harrison Elmer and Rose Love Barr of Ashe County, he retired from years of work in the Furniture Manufacturing industry as he worked for Broyhill Furniture and Mitchell Gold. He was a member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church, an avid bowler, and also coached recreational softball and baseball. Denver served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barr is preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Clifford Barr, and three sisters; Stella Sturgill, Irene Poe, and Ethel Dollinger. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol Pennell Barr of the home. Four sons; Kenneth Barr, and wife Bobbie of Bethlehem, James Barr of the home, Michael Barr and wife, Tina of Stony Point, and Greg Barr and wife, Amy of Wilkesboro. One brother Jimmy Barr and wife, Hazel of Wilkes County. Two sisters: Esta Patton of Ashe County and Lillie Frazier of Wilkes County. And one sister-in-law May Barr of Ashe Cty. Grandchildren include Jamie Barr Rogers and husband, Brandon of Sumter, SC; Cody Barr, Ashton Barr Sweet and husband, Koty Sweet, Durant Barr, Lena Barr, LeShea Barr, Lance Barr, and Caleb Barr. Great-grandchildren include Jacie Nicole Sweet and her to-be little brother Kasen Ryan Sweet, Lillie Marie Rogers; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at East Taylorsville Baptist Church from 1:00 – 2:30 pm with the Funeral Service following. Rev. Jamie Steele will officiate. Burial will follow at the Friendship Community Cemetery with Rev. Mark Marshall. The Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, along with Matt Johnson. Alexander Funeral Service will be serving the Barr family.
