Don Ray Benfield

Don Ray Benfield, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at his home in Alexander County on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on Thursday, November 11, 1948, in Alexander County, Don was the son of the late Ray and Hester Mays Benfield.

Don's love for his family was evident in all aspects of his life. He shared an enduring bond with his wife of 52 years, Retha Jewell Benfield. Together, they nurtured a family that included their sons, John Brown and David Brown (Connie), and daughters Crystal Enquirez (Chago) and Elecia Mitchell. Don was also a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and had the joy of three great-grandchildren who lit up his life. He is remembered fondly by his sister JoAnn Fox (Jake) and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as his fur baby, Winnie, who stayed close to him throughout his life.

A man skilled with his hands and passionate about mechanics, Don enjoyed working on and fixing race cars and a variety of automobiles. His talents not only brought him personal satisfaction but also the admiration of fellow enthusiasts and family alike.

Along with his parents, Don is preceded in death by an infant son who was lost too soon, his son Henry Benfield, and his brother Jackie Benfield, and his fur babies, Ginger and Snoopy.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Alexander Funeral Service, located at 193 NC-16, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Inurnment with the family.

As we gather to celebrate the life of Don, we will remember his unwavering love for family, his passion for cars, and the countless memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Don will be greatly missed but forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
