Dora Alice Walker Bowman, age 89, of Lenoir, passed away early Thursday morning, July 14th, 2011 at Camelot Manor. Dora was born on January 17th, 1922 in Wilkes County to parents John Q. Elledge and Isador M. Walker Price. She attended Freedom Independent Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Prater Lee Bowman; their infant son, Calvin Lee Bowman; brother, J.O. Walker; and 1 great great grandchild, Michael Tyler Bowman. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, James Ray Bowman & wife Charlotte of Taylorsville; 2 daughters: Mary Cline & husband Larry of Lenoir, and Barbara Hollar of Taylorsville. She was a grandmother of 9: Rita Craig, Christopher Cline, Eddie, David, Eric & Bodie Hollar, Doug Bowman, Sherrie Preslar, and April Bowman Johnson; 12 great-grandchildren: Ashley Brown, Jonathan Oliver, Mary Beth Oliver Puett, Jason, Kyle, & Kevin Hollar, Daniel & Seth Bowman, Ryan & Derek Preslar, and Blake and Owen Johnson. She also leaves behind 3 great great-grandchildren: William Hollar, Kaylin Grace, and Kelsey Leann; 2 step-great grandchildren: Josh & Dillon Gurley; sister-in-laws: Pauline Walker of Morganton, and Amanda Keller and Pearl Johnson of Taylorsville; and her special friend, Brenda Cline of Lenoir.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 16th, 2011 at Freedom Independent Baptist Church in Granite Falls from 1-2:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 where the Rev. Van Proffit and Nick Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Temple Hill Baptist Church Cemetery where Dora*s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Caldwell County Hospice at Kirkwood Center @ 902 Kirkwood Street NW. Lenoir, 28645. Alexander Funeral Service of Taylorsville has been entrusted with arrangements.
