Doris Townsend age 91 of Taylorsville passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Valley Nursing Center. She was born to the late Grover Cleveland and Roxie Rhymer Wheeler on Tuesday, April 8, 1924 in Watauga County.
She enjoyed flower gardening, reading (especially her bible), bingo, woodworking, and her time spent with her grandchildren, just talking and telling stories. It was always a very special time for her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son Commie Lee Townsend, six brothers Commadore, Ronda, Don, Jimmy, Richard, and Ernest Wheeler, six sisters Lola W. Lail, Hattie W. Cox, Frances W. Hartley, Faye W. Green, Judy, and Pearl Wheeler.
She leaves to cherish her memory one sister Wilma W. Green of Ashe Co, NC, two daughters Lucy Watson, Joanie Buchanan and husband Charles of Taylorsville, four grandchildren Michael Church, Mark Walker and wife Tina of Taylorsville, Toshia Wagner and husband Jaime of Miami, Fla, Shelda Townsend of Morganton, four great grandchildren Jackson and Dawson Walker, Gabrielle and Mikey Church all of Taylorsville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Service with the funeral starting at 2:30 in the chapel. Burial will follow in the Oxford Church Cemetery in Conover with the Rev. Robert Chester officiating. Pallbearers will include: Charles Buchanan, Jackson Walker, Dawson Walker, Jaime Wagoner, Mark Walker, and Michael Church.
