Dorothy Elizabeth Surles Feimster, affectionately known as "Dottie," age 89, left her earthly home on Saturday, May 25, 2024, in Forsyth County. She was born on Friday, January 4, 1935, to the late Joe Ennis and Adner Surles in Johnston County. Dottie lived a life filled with love, resilience, and dedication to her family.
Dorothy's journey began with early hardships as she was orphaned at the tender age of 12 when she tragically lost both her parents. Despite this early loss, she displayed remarkable strength and perseverance. Raised at the Barium Springs Orphanage in Troutman, she grew into a strong woman who later took on the role of a single mother to four boys. Her unwavering love and dedication shone through as she raised her sons with grace and fortitude.
Throughout her life, Dorothy worked diligently, working many years as a waitress before spending a decade at Walmart, and then later in life transitioning to care for homebound individuals. Her compassionate nature and nurturing spirit were evident not only in her professional roles but also in her personal relationships.
Dorothy cherished her family above all else and found immense joy in their company, especially when surrounded by her grandchildren that lovingly called her “Granny Duck.” She created beautiful memories with them and took pride in being an integral part of their lives.
Apart from her immediate family members who have preceded her in death, Dorothy is survived by her loving sons: Stan Feimster (Judy), Scott Feimster (Maria), Bruce Feimster (Renee'), and Kelly Feimster. Additionally, she leaves behind her nephew Robert Feimster (Brigette), along with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In her leisure time, Dorothy found solace in reading and cherished moments spent socializing with others. Known for her warm presence and infectious laughter, she effortlessly drew people towards her.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Dorothy Elizabeth Surles Feimster will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the Taylorsville City Cemetery at 3:00 pm. Rev. Mark Marshall will officiate.
As we bid farewell to Dorothy, let us remember her for the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the strength she embodied. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing this remarkable woman.
