Dorothy Warren Hammer, age 92, of Taylorsville left this world for her heavenly home on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at her residence. She was born on October 18, 1925, the daughter of the late David & Maggie Stafford Warren. During her life, she worked in the textile industry and then later had the pleasure of staying home and being a housewife. She had such a love for her family and those around her. Dorothy was a member at Calvary Baptist Church where she was a choir member, lead singer for Calvary quartet for a number of years, and was also a former Sunday School teacher. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Leroy Thurston Hammer; son Dale L. Hammer; sisters Lillian W. Deal, Vergie W. Carrigan, Valdra W. Patterson, Lois W. Teague, Anna Mae Icenhour, & Ruth Jean Warren; brother Dwight Warren; and half-brothers Willie Warren & Cletus Stafford.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Janis Clark & husband Craven and Kathy Chapman & husband Gerald; grandchildren Angela Clark, Miriam Starnes & husband Todd, Sonia C. Pearson, Eric Chapman & wife April and Brian Hammer ; great-grandchildren Mackenzie C. Pearson, Lauren & Grant Starnes, Drew & Isaac Chapman, Nelah Clark, Josh Lovelace, and Bradley Sharp; and a special cousin Christine Fox.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church and the funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Steve Dagenhart officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery on 16 South. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund at 550 5th Ave. SW, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful caregivers who so faithfully cared for her: Connie Stillwell, Sharon Greathouse, Alice Johnson, Sherry Hammer, and Rowena Childers. They would also like to express their appreciation to Catawba Hospice and especially to Nurse Cherri and CNA Shuya.
