Dwight James Dyson, age 79, of Taylorsville passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014 at his residence. Born in Alexander County on July 6, 1934 to the late Oficeus Celethous Dyson and Julie Elizabeth (Barnes) Dyson. He worked as a supervisor for the upholsterers at Alexvale Furniture and had previously worked for Broyhill Industry and Lewittes. Dwight was a member of Liledoun Baptist Church and taught Sunday School at Poplar Spring Baptist Church for 33 years. He also loved spending time with his beagles. In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by his three brothers: Rev. Devon Dyson, Rev. Bill Dyson, and Graydon Henry Dyson; and six sisters: Ethel Fox, Reba Price, Sybil Mitchell, Ruby Chapman, Ruth Fox, and Hilda Dyson Chapman. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, Johnsie Mary (Austin) Dyson; two daughters: Sheila Dyson Dial and husband Gerald and Sharon Dyson Mecimore and husband David; one brother: Maynard Dyson; and one sister: Bobby Jean Miller and Ralph and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 5:00pm-7:00 pm at Liledoun Baptist Church. The service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Liledoun Baptist Church with the Rev. James Bumgarner, Rev. James Lockee, and Rev. Jeff Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Mickie Dyson, David Chapman, Brett Munday, Steve Johnson, Doug Hamby, and Tim Dyson. Memorials may be sent to Liledoun Baptist Church at 2487 Liledoun Rd; Taylorsville, NC 28681.
