Elizabeth Joan Johnson

January 25, 1949 — August 13, 2021

Elizabeth “Joan” Ferguson Johnson, age 72, passed away after a period of declining heath due to pancreatic cancer. She was born January 25, 1949, to the late Charles and Winifred Vivian Ferguson. Joan graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor’s in
Library Science. She then served as a librarian for 28 years at Taylorsville Elementary School, where she loved reading stories to the kids. She was of the Baptist faith and was very involved in her faith. Joan helped in various offices of the ECA group but enjoyed making crafts with the ladies the most. She loved working her water and flower garden.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Those left to cherish the memories of Mrs. Johnson include her husband of 53 years Roy Ray Johnson, a son Michael Ray Johnson (Trish), a daughter Kristina Rae Johnson, three sisters: Rose, Susan, and Margaret, one brother Harvey, three grandchildren: John, Sarah, and Leslie.

A visitation for Joan will be held Friday August 20, 2021, at 6:00-6:45 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm in the Alexander Funeral Service Chapel.

Donations may be made to the Bethlehem Library at 45 Rink Dam Rd, Hickory, NC 28601 or to Carolina Caring at 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658.
