Elsie Mae Baker Starnes, age 83, of the Bethlehem Community, Taylorsville passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born in Catawba County on January 26, 1930 to the late Lee Roy and Ora Roseabell Baker. She loved going to church and was a lifelong member at Shiloh Lutheran Church. Elsie had worked at Knit Socks hosiery mill in Hickory. She later retired and became a Homemaker, allowing her to do the things that she enjoyed like spending time with her family and gardening. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers: Ray, Wade and Earl Barker; sisters: Irene McBride, Verna Bolick and Eva Teague. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years: Bruce Richard Starnes; children: Brenda Smith and husband Jimmy of Newton, Betty Dyson and the late Mickey Dyson of Bethlehem, Kathy Drum and the late Rodney Drum of Lincolnton, Sheila Brown and husband Danny of Bethlehem and James "Sonny" Starnes and wife Lecticia of Bethlehem; brother: Ralph Baker of Hickory; grandchildren: Melinda, Freddie and Robert Smith of Newton, Michael Dyson of Great Falls, Kristy Dyson of Lincolnton, Daniel and Kayla Brown and Trae Starnes all of Bethlehem; great grandchildren: Ryan, Dylan, Cameron and Anna Smith, Josh and Jake Spain and Dalton Brown.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm at Shiloh Lutheran Church and Service will begin at 4:00 pm with the Rev. David L. Hefner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Michael Dyson, Daniel Brown, Danny Brown, Freddie Smith, Robert Smith, and James Bolick Jr. Memorials may be sent to Shiloh Lutheran Church Roof Fund at 1011 Shiloh Church Rd; Hickory, NC 28601.
