Ernest Jewel Roberts, age 79, of Hiddenite , passed away at his residence, on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016. Born in Cherokee county North Carolina, on Oct. 18, 1937, to the late Clyde W. and Elsie Davis Roberts, he attended the Church of God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded, by two brothers, Herman and Virgil Roberts, along with one sister, Edith Mitchell.
Mr. Roberts was a corporate auditor, and had served as Tax Administrator for Alexander county, for eight years. Mr. Roberts was a veteran of the United States Army.
Ernest is survived, by his wife, Frances J. Roberts of the home, as well as two sons; Keith Roberts and wife Lisa of Hiddenite and Danny Roberts of Myrtle Beach. He has one daughter, Sandra Roberts of Hiddenite. Five grandchildren will remember him; April Hopkins, Brittany Roberts, Coty Roberts, Dalton Siler, and Cory Morez, , with seven great grandchildren; Alexis Mecimore, Aaden Roberts, Brennon Harrell, Gage Siler, Nevaeh Hinson, Liam Delaney, Jacob Moretz. Ernest has two brothers surviving; Wayne and Kenneth Roberts, both of Hiddenite. There are a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at Alexander Funeral Service, with funeral services at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mark Albertino, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hiddenite Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Coty Roberts, Rodney Roberts, Marty Roberts, Dalton Siler, Kim Bumgarner, Lucas Levan, and Tommy Johnson. Chapter 84, Disabled American Veterans, Taylorsville, will present the flag at the grave.
