Escar William Childers, age 89 of Taylorsville passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at his residence. He was born on April 9, 1927 in Alexander County to the late Gill and Sally Chapman Childers. Escar was retired from Harrington Construction where he was a carpenter for 19 years. He also had worked for Schneider Mills and in the Alexander County School System in Maintenance. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during WWII. Escar was a member at Three Forks Baptist Church and the choir leader for 60 years. He was also a Sunday School Teacher and involved in the Training Union. Escar was a founding member of the Three Forks & Poplar Springs Double Quartet, widely known throughout the region. Including his parents, Escar is preceded in death by his wife, Lou Eva Russell Childers; daughter, Nancy Carol; brother, Fred Childers; and sisters, Bessie Bell Hubbard, Georgia Verna Hubbard, Hessie Edward Harrington, Edna Mae Walker, Mary Estelle Pennell, and Martha Sue Harrington. Those left to cherish his memory include a number of nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Pearl Ingram Childers.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm at Three Forks Baptist Church and the funeral service will follow. Dr. Carson Moseley and Rev. Neal Walker will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the DAV Post 84 of Taylorsville and Post 6 of Hudson.
