Flossie Patterson Barnes, age 82, of the Ellendale Community passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. Born August 27, 1929, to the Late Patrick Eugene and Luna McCurdy Patterson in Chase City, Virginia. She was an active member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty three years, Keither Barnes, one son Bradley C. Barnes as well as one granddaughter, Carrie Icenhour. She had also lost to death, four brothers, Pat, Isaac, Paul, and Grey Patterson and two sisters, Marie Mason and Vona P. Duncan. Mrs. Barnes, was self-employed in the poultry business as a grower for many years. She was a homemaker and loved quilting, gardening, sewing and was an avid reader. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Audrey B. Rector and husband Tim; Gilda B. Fletcher and husband John, all of Taylorsville, as well as Connie B. Lackey and husband George, of Hiddenite. She has six grandchildren, Avery and Andy Lackey of Hiddenite, Jennie Earp and Kelsie Anderson, both of Taylorsville, Emily Williams of Jacksonville, NC and Craig Barnes of Taylorsville. She also has five great grandchildren. Three sisters survive, Arlene Smith of Mooresville, Mary Mason and Gaybell York both of Statesville.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, Aug. 21, 2012 from 6:30-8:30 at Alexander Funeral and Cremation Service, with funeral services on Wed., Aug. 22 at 3:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. The body will lie in state for thirty minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Allen Fox and Rev. Ricky Safriet will officiate.
