Franklin Delano Hammer, age 78, of Stony Point passed away on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017. Born to the late Arthur R. and Opal Dearman Hammer, on Jan. 11, 1939, he was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Franklin was retired from Dixie Worsted Mills and had served for 39 years on the Stony Point Fire Department. He was an avid fisherman and bluegrass fan.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy M. Taylor Hammer of the home. Two children survive: Richard Shannon Hammer {Sarah}, of Hamptonville, and Tina M. Hartwell {Richard}, of Stony Point. He has two sisters: Faye Gregory {Jimmy}, of Stony Point and Joyce Harris {Bob}, Hiddenite as well as one brother, Herman Hammer {Kaye}, Stony Point. He has eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, along with eight nieces and nephews. Along with man’s best friends, Torie and Chocolate, who will truly miss him.
Visitation will be held Monday evening, Oct. 9, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Scott and Wes Hammer officiating. Burial will follow at Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery in Catawba, NC. Pallbearers will be members of the Stony Point Fire Department and family.
