Heaven celebrates a life well lived and well loved!
Franklin D.R. Moore of Raleigh, NC, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, NC.
Frank was born April 27, 1935, in Emporia, VA., the son of Nora Myrick Moore of Roanoke Rapids. He graduated from Scotland Neck High School, where he lettered in football and played the tuba in the high school band. He was awarded a music scholarship to East Carolina University but declined in order to enter the Service.
In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Army and during the Korean Conflict, he was stationed in Permersen, Germany as a Spec 4 Field Artillery Battalion, firing a 280mm cannon.
After service, Frank enrolled in the University of N.C. at Chapel Hill, working his way through and receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduation, he began work as Deputy Commissioner of Insurance in Raleigh. His love of people led him to become an instructor for Dale Carnegie courses. He retired with Olan Mills in 1997 after a career in outside sales. In 2013, he joined the Caldwell County Veteran Honor Guard where he continued as chaplain until his death. His love of flying enabled him to solo in a Cessna plane, which was one of his most treasured accomplishments. He was a faithful member of Mount Home Baptist Church in Morganton. His passions in life were God, his family, his church, the Cross, the American flag, and helping others---whether spiritually or financially. He often expressed disappointment that he hadn’t done more for others.
In addition to his beloved Mother, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, William Moore.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Robbie Johnson Moore of the home; a precious daughter, Carla M. Mills and husband John of Wake Forest; two grandsons, Joshua Mills and wife Rebekah, and Christopher Mills. He also dearly loved his wife’s family in Hiddenite and so enjoyed the times spent with them.
A celebration of life will be conducted on March 15, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Mount Home Baptist Church in Morganton with the Rev. Lee Davis officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Army National Guard, and the Caldwell County Veteran Honor Guard. The family will be serving light refreshments during visitation in the fellowship hall at Mount Home Baptist Church from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm.
The family is not accepting flowers at this time, but memorial contributions may be made to the Caldwell County Veteran Honor Guard at 128 Cedar Valley Road in Hudson, or Mount Home Baptist Church Building Fund at 2272 Mount Home Church Road in Morganton.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Alexander Funeral and Cremation Service in Taylorsville, NC.
