Fred Eli Childers, age 93, of Taylorsville went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 29 at Valley Nursing Center. Born on March 31, 1920 to the late Thad and Maggie Query Childers. Fred was a veteran of the US Army and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was retired from Broyhill in Conover where he worked as a pack merchant for 47 ½  years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife: Grace Joines Dial Childers; first wife: Mildred "Lucille" Bumgarner; son: Grady Childers; brothers: Don Childers, David Childers and Thomas Childers; sisters: Edna Wike and Della Daniels and grandson: Scott Davis. Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Lena C. Campbell and husband Joey of Taylorsville, Dale Childers and wife Shirley of Taylorsville, Gerald M. Dial and wife Shelia of Taylorsville, David A. Dial and wife Laurie of Newton and Rachel Tevepaugh Walker and husband George of Iron Station; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 1, 2013 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Goforth officiating. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the DAV Chapter 84 of Taylorsville and Chapter 6 of Hudson. Serving as Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons in law: Billy Davis, David Dial Jr., Jeremy Childers, David Findley, Greg Hollar and Scott Jernigan and nephews: Randy Childers and Roscoe Childers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Alexander at 50 Lucy Echerd Lane; Taylorsville, NC 28681.
