Fred Russell Thompson, age 87, of Taylorsville passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born in Cherokee County, NC on January 22, 1927 to the late Hobart Charles and Dollie (Anderson) Thompson. He served in the US Army during WWII and worked as a carpenter. Fred enjoyed gardening and was a lifelong farmer. He also was a member of Union Baptist Church in Lenoir. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years - Lois Burgess Thompson; and brothers - Elmer Charles Thompson and James Sanford Thompson. Those left to cherish his memory include his son: Charles Thompson of Taylorsville; daughter: Kathy Johnson and husband Lonnie of Granite Falls; sisters: Blanche Miller and Lois Brown of Griffin, Georgia; brother-in-law: Jeff Burgess of Statesville and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Union Baptist Church in Lenoir and a Graveside Service will follow at 11:00 am in the church cemetery with the Rev. Myron Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Catawba Regional Hospice at 3975 Robinson Rd; Newton, NC 28658.
