Garrell Sloan Pennell,

Garrell Sloan Pennell, age 83 of the Ellendale community passed away at Frye Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, December 23, 2014.  He was born in Alexander County on September 18, 1931 to the late Byrd Rufus and Amy Cecil White Pennell.  He was a member of Three Forks Baptist Church.  As Garrell would put it, he liked to "piddle" and he could fix just about whatever he wanted.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Klutz Pennell; two daughters:  Margie Herman and Vivian Herman; and one brother, Herman Pennell.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Pennell of the home. His children include two sons:  Lloyd Pennell and wife Bett,  and Kenneth Pennell and wife Jennifer; two daughters; Joyce McLean and husband Jerry, and Amy Pennell and husband Greg McCloud.  Three stepchildren:  Gail London and husband Mark, Robin Green, and Mike Young and wife Cindy.  He also leaves behind eighteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, one brother, Billy Pennell and wife Ethelene; and two sisters, Gaynell Keaser and Angelle Foust.
Visitation for Mr. Pennell will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Alexander Funeral Service from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Three Forks Baptist Church beginning at 2:00 pm.  Rev. Carson Moseley will officiate.  Burial will follow at Dover Baptist Church Cemetery.  The Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society "Team Jam" @ P O  Box 2994, Hickory, NC  28601.
