Gayna Smart Futrell, 62, of The Villages, Fla., passed away Monday, September 27,2010 at The Villages Regional Hospital of a massive heart attack. Mrs. Futrell was born in Shelby, N.C. to Grady and Dova Crowder Smart. She graduated from Valdese High School and lived in Hickory, until moving to The Villages in Florida in 2008. She was employed in the Financial Dept. of Hickory Springs Mfg. Co. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Gerald Futrell and her father, Grady Smart in 2004. Survivors include her mother, Dova Smart; a sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Bobby Phillips; a brother and sister-in-law, Joey and Debra Smart; a nephew, Neal Smart; two step-nieces, Deborah Belk and Toni Burke; a step-nephew, Darryl Phillips and wife Anita; a step-daughter, Emily Futrell; two step-granddaughters, Summer Hendrix and Elise Debev. Funeral Services will be conducted by Rev. Jerome Walker at Gateway Baptist Church in Newton, NC on Sunday, Oct. 3rd at 3:00 p.m. with the family receiving following the service. Burial will be private on Monday. Alexander Funeral and Cremation Service in Taylorsville is serving the Futrell family.
