Gene Martin Linney, age 81, of Taylorsville passed away at his residence on Monday, June 24 after a period of declining health.  He was born in Charlotte on February 2, 1932 to the late William Talmadge Linney and Elsie Clark Linney, who were waiting to greet him in heaven along with a brother, William and a sister Mary Evelyn. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Janet Bollinger Linney, two daughters Gina Hudson and husband David and Brenda Maye and husband, Marlon.  Three grandchildren Abbey Duggan, Kali and Tate Hudson. He was a 1954 graduate of NCSU with a degree in Ag Ed and a 1965 graduate of ASU with a MA.  He taught in Caldwell and Alexander County Schools.  He also served as Vocational Director of the Alexander County Schools.  He retired from the school system in the mid 70's.  He also owned and operated Unifour Wood Products and Linney Pulpwood and Timber Company. He served on the Alexander Hospital Board, the Alexander County School Board and the NC State Forestry Council. He was a member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church where he served on the house and grounds committee and a former member of First Baptist where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and in many other areas.
A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Taylorsville City Cemetery followed by a  Memorial service at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev.'s Gary Jennings, Marion Powell, Jamie Steele, and Dan Redding officiating.  Visitation will follow the memorial service. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice and HomeCare of Alexander County @ 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, 28681.
