George "Lee" Rogers, age 83, of Taylorsville, passed away at Valley Nursing Center on Saturday, February 6, 2016. Mr. Rogers was the son of the late Lindsay and Beatrice Watts Rogers. He was born on August 29, 1932 in Wilkes County. Mr. Rogers served his country in the US Army, was a Alexander County Chief Deputy Sherriff, Town of Taylorsville Manager, and Alexander County Administrator. Mr. Rogers served in food services for restaurant startup and owned Lee's Restaurant at one time. He was a very skilled carpenter and loved spending time with his family. Mr. Rogers was a member of Three Forks Baptist Church. In addition to his parents Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by a sister Florrie Rogers Kerley.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife Mary Shafer Rogers of the home, two sons: Lenny Rogers of Taylorsville, and George Rogers & wife Crystal of Hickory; six grandchildren: Rachel Rogers of Costa Rica, Hannah & Ben Rogers of Taylorsville, Jarrod, Lily, & Levi Rogers all of Hickory, one sister Ann Greer & husband Frank of Lexington, one brother Earl Rogers & wife Dakota of Can'on City, CO, and a number of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, February 8, 2016 at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held at Three Forks Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 2:00 pm. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The Rev. Carson Moseley will be officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ben Rogers, Trey Herman, Craig Childers, Guy Kerley, Ronnie Jones, and Lee Herman. The family requests that in addition to flowers that memorials be made to Lee's granddaughter Rachel Rogers who is a missionary in Costa Rica.
