George Ray Willis, age 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Taylorsville House in Alexander County. Born on Monday, January 27, 1930, in Caldwell County, George led a life rich in dedication and service to his family and country.
Proudly serving in the United States Army, George exemplified a spirit of commitment that continued throughout his life. He was a devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he found both community and solace. George cherished his family deeply, often expressing his love and gratitude through simple, meaningful moments spent together.
Throughout his life, George enjoyed various outdoor pursuits, notably hunting and fishing, which served as perfect outlets for his adventurous spirit. His love for hobby farming also provided him with immense joy, connecting him to the land and the natural world around him.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Henry A. Willis and Erie Ella Hastings Willis, his beloved wife of 59 years, Edna Willis, and his brothers John Willis, Howell Willis, and Scott Willis, along with his sister Hazel Kiziah. Their memories lived on in George's stories and experiences that he passed down to his family.
He is survived by his sisters, Ola Deal of Taylorsville and Shirley Hudson of Hickory, along with a number of cherished nieces and nephews who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and warmth.
In honor of George’s remarkable life, a visitation will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Oak Grove Baptist Church located at 4950 Oak Grove Church Road, Granite Falls, NC 28630, from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Oak Grove Baptist Church at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Lonnie Bell and Pastor Wayne White will officiate. Shawn Reed, Shay Reed, James Reed, David Deal, Dale Willis, and Carmen Willis will serve as pallbearers. Military Rites will be provided.

George will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his faith, and the lasting impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and integrity that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends.
