Gerald Thomas Russell, age 79, a beloved member of his family, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Wilkes Medical Center in Wilkes County. He was born on Saturday, August 18, 1945, in Wilkes County, where he spent his early years and that laid the foundation for his life.
During his working career, Gerald served as a fabric handler for Sherrill Furniture, where he applied his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft. His colleagues remember him not only for his skill but for his kindness and supportive nature, which made him a respected figure in the workplace.
Gerald's greatest passion, however, was his family. He loved them deeply and treasured the moments spent together. He is survived by his son, Mark Russell (Arnetta), along with five granddaughters and eight great-granddaughters, who will carry on his legacy of love and family values. He is also survived by his sisters, Harriet "Pat" Tyler (Ron), Annie Lou Robinette (Ronnie), and Mary Helen Teague (Joey), along with several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember their time with him.
Gerald had a wide range of interests that brought joy to his life. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing, and he enjoyed listening to country music, which often provided the soundtrack to his joyful moments. Additionally, he loved to travel around, taking in the beauty of different places and creating lasting memories in the process. Gerald also enjoyed making people laugh any chance he was able to.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lindsay Russell Sr. and Lena Wilkins Russell, his brothers, Lindsay Garland Russell Jr., Leonard Charles Russell, and Dennis Lee Russell, and several nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Gerald will be remembered for his loving spirit, dedication to family, and his zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of fond memories and deep affection that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
