Giles Derold "Scotty" Scott, age 80 of Taylorsville, passed away Tuesday, July 3 at his residence. He was born February 15, 1932 to the late Lonnie and Elizabeth (Deal) Scott in Alexander County. Scotty began his career in the restaurant business in Alexander County in 1965, having owned and established several restaurants, over the years. These places include Harry Gant's Steakhouse which currently is Captains Pete's Seafood & Steak and Rainbow Diner now known as S & S Restaurant. In 1975 he built and operated for 18 years, The Coffee Shoppe which today is Mexico Veijo. He also helped his son, Darren build Scotty's Hometown Grill in 2001. Involvement in other community organizations included a charter member at Brushy Mountain Golf Club, a lifelong member of the Alexander County Chamber of Commerce, a previous member of the Board of Directors at 1st Community Bank, the Kiwanis Club and the Jaycee's Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Taylorsville and the head of the Brotherhood Breakfast. He served in the US Army as a Mess Hall sergeant at the 38th Parallel during the Korean Conflict. His favorite pastime was traveling, reading and he was an avid lover of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. Including his parents, he is also preceded in death by one sister; Vivian Feilner and four brothers; Byron, Roland, Willis and Arnam Scott. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 55 years, Janet Scarbro Scott; one son, Darren Scott and wife Jill; one daughter, Kimberly Thomas; four grandchildren; Brandon Thomas and Isaac, Chloe and Ansley Scott; one sister, Jane Wray and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church. Visitation with the family will follow the service. Rev. Roger Underwood and Rev.
