Gregory Stephen Stegall, age 73, a devoted family man and respected member of his community, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Catawba County. He was born on Friday, April 20, 1951, in Mecklenburg County, and his life was defined by his unwavering love for his family and commitment to his faith.
Gregory earned a Bachelor's degree at UNC Charlotte, a testament to his dedication to education and self-improvement. Throughout his life, he shared his passion for learning with those around him and instilled these values in his children and grandchildren.
He was well-known for being an avid tennis player, a pursuit that brought him joy and camaraderie, as he enjoyed both the competition and the friendships that blossomed on the court. His playful spirit and competitive nature were evident in all aspects of his life.
Gregory was a man of faith who lived according to the principles of the Baptist faith. In addition to his personal pursuits, Gregory took great pride in his membership within the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, organizations that reflected his commitment to community service and brotherhood. He cherished the relationships he formed through these affiliations and was admired for his dedication and leadership.
Gregory is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joanne Stegall; their daughters, Jenny Thompson (Bradley) and Jessica Mounce (Slade); and his grandchildren Alex Freeman (Ashlee), Elijah Thompson, Aidan Stegall, and Lily Mounce. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Addison Freeman, Aaron Freeman, Addison Thompson, and Elijah Thompson Jr., all of whom were the light of his life and the source of much pride and joy. Also left to cherish Gregroy’s memory are his nephews Mark Stegall (Julie) and Andy Stegall, nieces Donna Kim Craft (Grover), Glenda Kirkley, and Debbie Stewart, and special cousin Marian Shore.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Lillie Littleton Stegall; his sister, Martha Harrington; and his brother, Don Stegall. Their memories and the legacies they left behind will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be with the family.

Gregory will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for the love he so freely gave and the joy he brought into the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who loved him dearly.
