Harles Junior Southers, age 86, of Hiddenite, passed away at Gordon Hospice House surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 following a period of declining health. Harles was born on July 9, 1929 to the late Raymond Southers and Rosie Southers Earp in Wilkes County. Harles was a loyal and active member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Hiddenite, where he served as a deacon. Prior to retirement he worked in the furniture industry and loved making wood crafts with his son Jerry.
In addition to his parents Harles was preceded in death by one brother Roy Lee Southers.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Margaret Ann Stikeleather Southers, one son Jerry Southers and wife Judy, one daughter Melissa Moose and husband Lynn. Four grandchildren Pam Southers, Jatana Stevenson and husband Derek, Jessica Younts and husband Jamie, Heather Pierce and husband Tyler. Six great grandchildren Sydney, Sage, and Scout Stevenson, Bode, Bella, and Cale Younts, whom he dearly loved and adored.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Old Mountain Rd, Hiddenite. A celebration of Harles' life will follow at 6:00 pm with the Rev. Brian Eades and Rev. Buster Treadway officiating. In addition to flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Rd, Statesville, NC 28677 or to Mt.
