Harold Boyden Fortner, Sr., age 86, of Taylorsville, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Valley Nursing Center. He was born in Alexander County on December 2, 1927 to the late Howard Fortner and Lorna Kerley Fortner. He was retired from Harold Fortner & Sons Sawmilling and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening in his spare time. Harold was a veteran of the US Army and he was also a member of Lebanon Baptist Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: "Peggy" Margaret Fortner; brother: Lynn Fortner; sister: Marie Watson; sons: Danny Fortner, Jamie Fortner, Pat Fortner, and Hal Fortner; and granddaughter: Felicity Fortner.
Those left to cherish his memory include sons: Tommy Fortner and wife Tammy of Taylorsville, Mike Fortner of Lenoardtown, Maryland, David Fortner and wife Lisa of Taylorsville, and Mark Fortner and wife Amanda of Taylorsville; grandchildren: DJ Fortner, Thomas Fortner, Alvin Moretz, Jeremy Fortner, Kristen Morrison, Nathan Fortner, Amy Chapman, Stephen Fortner, Lacy Fortner, Davey Fortner, Christian Fortner, Nicholas Fortner, Kirsten Fortner, Aaron Fortner, Kaylor Hicks, Tabitha Dishner, and Brett Fortner; 12 great grandchildren; brother: Bob Fortner and wife, Ethel; sister: Doris James and husband, Joe; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Lebanon Baptist Church. The service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Eddie Jolly and Rev. Keith Childers officiating. Burial will take place after the service at the church cemetery. Pallbearers include grandsons. Military rites will be provided by VFW Post 5466.
